What was I thinking when I got this? I find that I have to crush the can first and then proceed delicately to keep the can from shooting out of this crusher across the floor, skittering those last few drops of soda around the kitchen as it goes. Once I manage to get a precrushed can maneuvered in there where it will hold still long enough to get sort of mashed, I have to turn the can around and do the whole thing again before achieving any discernible difference in the volume of the can using the crusher. This little machine sure doesn’t squash the can as flat as in the picture advertised on amazon.com, unless I put a great deal of effort into the project and crush each can multiple times — which defeats the purpose of a can crusher anyway.

Considering I have to step on the can to flatten it before it will hold still under any pressure from this device, I’m left to wonder, what is the point? It’s easier, cheaper, and more effective just to stomp on the can wearing a decent pair of shoes. If you go that route, be sure to put a piece of scrap wood or something under the can first so as not to mar your floor when you are stomping on it while frustrated with the crusher for being worthless, the flimsy little can for being obstinate, and yourself for (a) buying a can crusher that doesn’t work and (b) not rinsing the can out before you tried it, because now you have to spot clean the kitchen, too (at least the spots too high for the dog to take care of when she returns from wherever she fled when the can took its maiden flight in her general direction). But don’t get this thing. I’m not sure what it’s good for, except maybe the entertainment value of a bystander lucky enough to observe the whole procedure without getting beaned by a semi-crushed soda-can projectile.

Every time you put a can into the crusher and step on it like you are suppose to the can flips out of the crusher without being crushed at all. If you bend the can first it still flips out. Don’t waste your money on this crusher.
