Eco Homes: Urban Bamboo Utopia is an all green home for land and water

Eco Factor: Conceptual self-sufficient home made from recycled and sustainable materials.

The Urban Bamboo Utopia (UBU) by Hungarian designer Dvorcsák Szabolcs is designed to reevaluate the relationship between humankind and the planet. The design proves that our planet needs homes and buildings that live in harmony with nature, using natural resources rather than destroying them.

The designer believes that green living doesn’t actually mean giving up on all technological wonders that we are so obsessed with, but simply powering them with greener sources of energy. The UBU is made from environmentally friendly, reused and sustainable materials such as bamboo and reused tire grind.

The self-supporting UBU carries catchment drains that harvest precipitation and rainwater that is then stored in underground tanks for reuse. Solar cells cover 95% of the house and rest of the space is used by the drains. The house carries a couple of windmills, which can also be pulled down in case of a gale to prevent any accidents.

The whole building is standing on eight pneumatically controllable air cushions, which are capable of keeping the UBU stable even on bumpy ground (by computer control), and it can also be used on the surface of water. The house carries walls that can be removed and repositioned to change the shape and size of the house according to need.
