Eco Factor: Automated recycling machine pays you for your old cellphones.
The number of portable electronic devices that get discarded every day in on a steep rise, which has made manufacturers think about sustainable manufacturing processes and take back programs that allow users to send their used electronic devices back to the company for recycling. The process isn’t as motivating as done by a machine called ecoATM.
ecoATM is a “Automated eCycling Station” that pays users for the device they insert in the machine for recycling. As the device is inserted, the machine automatically determines its value and pays the user accordingly. The company doesn’t state the process it uses to determine the value of the product or how the machine works, but going by their claims, the end result does seem lucrative.
The collected electronic devices are then sent in for recycling or reuse, depending on the condition of the item being disposed in the machine, thereby converting these devices into real money instead of toxic waste.
